Dear friends of the Guthrie family- Our wonderful mother, Margaret, passed away on Saturday, 4/24 after a sudden decline in her health. She was a very active lady in her retirement community right up until the day she was hospitalized. After a week in Seattle’s Northwest Hospital, she was able to return to her own home for her last few days to be with us and her beloved cat Gracie. Her extended family - including 2 month old first great grandchild, Gillis - was able to visit and have many moments and conversations with her while she was in the hospital and again when she returned home. She was the heart and connector of our family and we all miss her terribly. As per her wishes, on Saturday May 15th at 3 pm there will be a memorial service and celebration of our mother’s life at the church she attended in Seattle - Lake City Presbyterian Church. There will be a gathering in her childhood home town in Minnesota in the fall for friends and family living near there, following which she will join our father and brother John in the Memorial Garden of North Presbyterian Church, our family church in Williamsville NY. Mom had connections in many parts of the country and leaves behind friends and relatives in those communities. Due to this, information about her life and passing will be soon be found in papers in Seattle, Minneapolis, Lawrence KS and in our hometown papers in Buffalo and Williamsville NY. Details regarding possible places to send donations to one of her many favorite causes will also be posted in the newspaper and on this online memorial site. In her volunteer work and travels with our father, Bob, our mother met many people in all parts of the country as well as overseas. We know they, too, have fond memories of times shared over the 91 years she was amongst us. Our mother treasured her association with the many people like you she came to know. We, her children and family, are also pleased that you were part of her life. Please feel free to add to the stories and memories we will be gathering through this tribute page.
